I’m growing passionate about what they teach in secondary education. I understand the need for basic skills of math, grammar, and science. I found biology to be one of the most rewarding subjects, second to drama. We need classes to get to know ourselves. To understand epidemics that are facing our generation and the generations to come. Everyone should have basic understandings of mental health, understanding of psychology, of global cultures, of gender issues and sexuality, of acceptance, of philosophy - the very study of how to think. Why having correct posture will help your spine. The notion of patriarchy. Hours on sustainability. How people are more privileged than others. The world is changing but our education is effectively the same. We’re adapting with computers and details, but not so much in scope of content.

No classes on how to navigate a bureaucracy, build an organization, raise money, create a database, buy a house, love a child, spot a scam, talk someone out of suicide, or figure out what was important to me. Not knowing how to do these things is what messes people up in life, not whether they know algebra or can analyze literature."
